The hopes of the coaching staff at La Liga giants Real Madrid of having Luka Modrić back at their disposal early have on Saturday been brought to an end.
For those who may have missed it, Carlo Ancelotti and co. appeared to have been afforded a boost late last night.
This came upon Modrić picking up what appeared to be a yellow card, en route to Croatia’s Nations League defeat at the hands of Scotland.
The understanding, in turn, was that the veteran midfielder had also been hit with a suspension, unavailable for selection for his country’s upcoming showdown with Portugal.
All of this would have meant an early return from international duty, positive news for an injury-hit Real Madrid squad.
As alluded to above, however, as much has this afternoon been ruled out.
This comes amid further confirmation that Modrić was in fact not booked on Friday, with UEFA having made a mistake in reporting as much.
Instead, it was Andrej Kramarić who was shown a yellow card, meaning Modrić will be at Croatia’s disposal to face Portugal.
