Real Madrid & Xabi Alonso dealt heavy transfer blow | OneFootball

La Liga giants Real Madrid, and incoming head coach Xabi Alonso, have this week been dealt something of a blow on the transfer front.

This comes amid confirmation that Bayer Leverkusen sensation Florian Wirtz has made clear that he has no interest in making the move to Spain’s capital.

The name of midfielder Wirtz has of course long proven a prominent one in the media headlines in Madrid.

This comes amid the widespread understanding that the German international – with 16 goals and 13 assists to his name this season – is considered a leading transfer target on the part of Florentino Pérez and co.

Wirtz is widely viewed as one of world football’s next standout stars, with Real Madrid, in turn, having been hopeful of making use of the arrival of Xabi Alonso on the club’s bench to convince the midfielder of the merits of a Santiago Bernabéu switch.

If the latest word stemming from Germany is anything to go by, however, then this will not be the case.

As per a report from BILD, cited by Marca, Wirtz recently informed Alonso – his manager at Bayer Leverkusen – of his intention not to join either Real Madrid, or rival suitors Manchester City.

Instead, the 22-year-old has his heart set on a move to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
