Liverpool Make Approach for Frankfurt’s Hugo Larsson

Midfield reinforcement targeted after title-winning season

Liverpool have begun early manoeuvres in the summer transfer window, with their attention firmly fixed on Eintracht Frankfurt’s rising star, Hugo Larsson. As the Reds prepare to bolster their squad ahead of another gruelling campaign, the 20-year-old Swedish midfielder has emerged as a genuine target.

Following a triumphant Premier League season, there is little appetite for complacency at Anfield. The club’s hierarchy are fully aware of the challenges ahead, with rivals such as Manchester City continuing to invest heavily and Arsenal showing steady progress under Mikel Arteta. In this climate, recruitment becomes not just essential, but urgent.

Hugo Larsson gaining traction in Europe

Larsson has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at Frankfurt, registering 45 appearances across all competitions, contributing six goals and one assist. It’s that blend of durability, tactical maturity and attacking contribution that has seen clubs across Europe take notice.

Liverpool’s interest was first flagged by Sky Sports Germany back in November, who reported “serious interest” from the Merseyside outfit. Now, according to fresh information from German outlet BILD, Liverpool have “made enquiries with Hugo Larsson’s representatives”, taking their pursuit into a more concrete phase.

The same report suggests that while no formal offer has been submitted, the initial groundwork has been laid. This would suggest a proactive strategy from Liverpool, who appear keen to avoid bidding wars later in the summer.

Tottenham also in contention

While Liverpool have stepped up their approach, they are not alone in monitoring Larsson’s progress. Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly among those circling, as they look to strengthen their own midfield options under Ange Postecoglou.

Frankfurt are likely to play hardball. Larsson is contracted until 2028, and with his stock rising, there is no pressure to sell quickly. However, should the player express a desire to move, the Bundesliga side may be open to discussions.

There is also a belief within Liverpool’s recruitment team that Larsson could benefit from one more season of development in Germany before making the switch to the Premier League. That stance might allow for a deal to be struck in principle this summer, with the player remaining at Frankfurt for the 2025/26 campaign.

Liverpool’s summer rebuild already underway

Although Liverpool were linked earlier with Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush—who ultimately joined Manchester City—their focus has now sharpened on Larsson. It’s part of a broader plan to rejuvenate the midfield, a department that has seen significant transition over the past two windows.

The message from within the club is clear: success must be sustained, not admired. With a new manager set to take charge following Jurgen Klopp’s exit, every signing now carries strategic weight. Larsson’s profile—young, physically adept, technically sound—ticks several boxes.

As negotiations begin behind the scenes, the final decision may rest with Larsson himself. Liverpool have made their move. Now, they wait.
