Roma will go after Francesco Farioli, who has stepped down at Ajax after fumbling away the title, while Milan are observing what’s going on between Vincenzo Italiano and Bologna.
According to ESPN, the Italian gaffer left the Dutch team because of disagreements on the transfer market and the quality of the facilities. He clashed in particular with director Alex Kroes, who asked for a more aggressive style and stated that only a portion of the Champions League prize money would be spent to shore up the squad. He’s not actively in talks with other clubs and rejected an offer from Saudi Arabia. Per Tuttomercatoweb, Chelsea and Tottenham are keen on him but haven’t decided about their current coaches yet.
Roma like Farioli but didn’t think he would become available and could prefer a more experienced option, while Milan are hoping for an unlikely abrupt exit by Italiano. Per Corriere di Bologna, he’s negotiating an extension with the brass. He had agreed to just a two-year deal last summer.
He’s set to obtain a short-term renewal and a small pay bump up to €2.5M per year. However, rather than on the contractual terms, his permanence hinges on what reassurances he’ll receive. Several Felsinei stars are in demand. One or two will likely leave. Napoli are also eyeing him should Antonio Conte leave.
Both would be swell choices to start multi-year projects. The capital club would probably have good chances if they pursued the former without messing about. The Rossoneri should consider the former too, while it’d be surprising if the latter left Bologna.
