Alexis Saelemakers has been one of the driving forces of the recent return to form by Roma. He had started the season well under Daniele De Rossi, but he suffered a malleolus fracture that sidelined him for a couple of months.
Claudio Ranieri has taken advantage of his flexibility, and it has paid dividends. The winger has scored twice and provided two assists in the past five matches, featuring either on the right flank, which had been a sore spot, or behind the striker.
Roma will try to keep Saelemakers, but they’ll have to go through Milan, Relevo reports (via Tribuna). The Belgian international joined on a simple loan with no option to buy, same as Tammy Abraham. The two sides opted for an agile deal late in the summer window. The 25-year-old added a year to his contract with the Rossoneri before leaving, which now lasts until 2027.
The capital club will have to be ready to spend €15M to retain of the loanee, or potentially more if he continues to fare well, La Repubblica informs. Instead, the English striker might not have done enough to stay at San Siro.
Milan needed another center-forward and took the bait on the easiest one to sign, but they were once again too quick in partying ways with a quality player who had one well during the pre-season under Paulo Fonseca. Ironically enough, he has the traits they are reportedly seeking now. At least the damage wasn’t permanent in this case. They should keep him unless he feels spurned for what happened.
