Ross McCormack says Leeds United have the best squad he has ever seen in the Championship

Former Leeds United striker Ross McCormack has praised the club's owners, 49ers Enterprises Global Football Group LLC, and has weighed in on the Whites' promotion chances.

The 38-year-old plied his trade for the Whites from 2010-2014 and scored 58 goals in 157 appearances before joining Fulham, for whom he was also prolific at Championship level.

McCormack's former club Leeds sit top of the second tier table following last Monday's 2-1 triumph over promotion rivals Sunderland, and are gearing themselves up for an even more important clash with second-place Sheffield United this Monday.

Whoever emerges victorious at Bramall Lane will sit top of the Championship with just 12 games remaining, and will have taken a giant step towards securing a spot in next season's Premier League.

The Whites could also be relatively content with a draw, as that result would also see them maintain their current status as table-toppers and leave the Blades in second.

The former Whites star told the Scottish Sun: "When you look at what they (the 49ers) have done at Leeds, when you look at the squad they have built, it's by far and away the best squad I've ever seen there.

"I think they are probably missing a striker, but other than that, this Leeds United squad is the best I have seen put together in that league.

"They are on course for promotion back to the Premier League and there are more exciting times ahead.

"For me, it highlights the importance of getting the right people in charge to run a football club.

"To build that momentum you need to have everyone pulling in the right direction and that's what happened at Leeds.

"The club was a little bit disjointed when they came in and took over.

"They have galvanised the whole club.

"They've given the fans the Leeds United they have wanted for years."

Leeds United supporters will be thrilled by McCormack's comments

McCormack is already a popular figure at Elland Road, who notched an incredible return of 28 goals during the 2013/14 Championship campaign, and also caught the eye during the 2011/12 second tier season as he scored 18 goals.

The former Scotland international was a shining light for a Whites side who were otherwise performing below the standards supporters would expect from their club, as they resided in the mid-table region of the Championship.

Whites fans will now be delighted to hear McCormack's bullish claims that the West Yorkshire outfit boast the best squad he has ever seen at second tier level.

The Elland Road faithful will hope that the striker's predictions come true, and that their side go on to secure promotion back to the Premier League.
