Schlupp understands demands at Celtic – “You’ve got to find a way to win”

Jeffrey Schlupp has come into this Celtic side and really given a fresh impetus to the team in the last few weeks and there are plenty of supporters hoping he signs a permanent deal in the summer…

The Crystal Palace loanee has managed to usurp Greg Taylor from Brendan Rodgers’ plans for the time being, with some powerful performances in the left-back berth, prompting many to call for the Bhoys to deal him in permanently at the end of the campaign.

Schlupp named by Sandman as his Man of the Match

Jeff was great in Paisley at weekend too, in what was a tough affair against Stephen Robinson’s men, as they hassled and harried us at the SMiSA Stadium on Saturday evening. The conditions were also tough, with the pitch not being the smoothest and the bobbles making it really hard to get any sort of free-flowing passing game going.

It was Schlupp himself who would open the scoring for the Bhoys, with a well-executed shot that he drilled low and hard, to leave Zach Hemming with no chance in the St Mirren goal. Despite the Buddies getting back into the game twice, Celtic’s substitutions proved vital once again, as Yang, McCowan and Jota all made a telling difference in that difficult environment.

‘Difficult pitch to deal with for both sides’

Jeffrey Schlupp was quizzed after that hard-earned victory against the Saints, where the full-back made a significant contribution. When asked to sum that 5-2 result up, he replied: “I mean today was all about the result, to be honest. Quite a scruffy game, you know. Difficult pitch to deal with for both sides. In the end, you’ve got to find a way to win and I think we’ve managed that.”

‘Every game is tough in this league’

When asked if he and the team thought it would be that tough, due to the way in which St Mirren approach these games, he responded: “Yeah, definitely. Every game is tough in this league – especially away from home. I thought we dealt with it well. You know, professional performance. We got it done in the end with some great goals and some great impact off the bench as well, which really helped us to get the win in the end.”

Celtic’s left back options for next season

Celtic currently have Greg Taylor out of contract in the summer and no signs whatsoever of signing a new contract and Kieran Tierney retuning from Arsenal for next season.

If Taylor wants to try something different then a two year contract for Schlupp might be the perfect solution for Brendan Rodgers to ensure he has two quality performers in the left back position and both can also play in multiple positions in the team.
