With Sevilla’s position in mid-table in La Liga, it was inevitable that the club would have to take this winter transfer window seriously, in an effort to improve their form and results.
It is now looking like Garcia Pimienta’s side are closing in on their first transfer target of the January window, as they are getting close to securing a reinforcement in attack.
As per Relevo journalist Matteo Moretto, the Andalucian club are in final-stage negotiations for Augsburg attacker Rubén Vargas.
Vargas, who has made over 150 appearances for Augsburg across six seasons, would cost Sevilla around €3 million to secure.
The 26-year-old, who primarily plies his trade in attacking midfield, has been surplus to requirements at Augsburg this season, making most of his eight appearances from the bench.
Vargas is an international star for Switzerland, having gotten a goal and an assist across five appearances for his nation at last summer’s Euro 2024 tournament in Germany.
The Swiss international is rumoured to be signing a five-year deal at Sevilla, which would keep him at the club through his prime and into his 30s.
