After being heavily linked with Manchester United in recent weeks, Nuno Mendes has now informed Paris Saint-Germain that he will not be extending his contract.
Although the defender’s terms are due to expire in 2026, PSG were keen to have him sign another long-term deal to ensure his future was tied to the Parc des Princes.
When negotiations were initiated by the club, Mendes made it clear that he wanted his wage – currently in the region of £22,000 per week – to accurately reflect the integral, starting role he plays under Luis Enrique.
However, his demands have seemingly been rebuffed by the club. Recent updates have revealed that said talks had reached a standstill between all parties, while Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg took to X/Twitter tonight to report: “Now confirmed: Nuno Mendes does not plan to sign a new contract with PSG at this stage!
“22-year-old top left-back considering other options. The player still intends to take his time to carefully consider his future. Manchester United, still monitoring his situation closely and informed about everything.”

You’d imagine that United’s interest is being spearheaded by Ruben Amorim – and not only because Mendes poses as an ideal option to fulfil his newly implemented left-wing back role. The Portugal international made 47 appearances under United’s head coach at Sporting Lisbon, after which he completed a £34 million move to the Ligue 1 giants.
While PSG had initially ruled out the prospect of selling their defender in 2025, they may grow resigned to a deal being done in order to prevent him leaving for nothing next year. If Mendes is made available, either this month or in the summer, the Red Devils will presumably be first in line.
Fabrizio Romano also weighed in on United’s reported interest last week, confirming Mendes ‘is a player United appreciate ahead of the January transfer window’.
