FC Barcelona and Inter Milan played a thrilling 3-3 draw as they faced off in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final round last night. The visitors had taken a 2-goal lead by the 21st minute, and things were looking quite bleak for the Blaugranes at that time.
However, this difficult moment did not last very long as only three minutes later Lamine Yamal scored a wondergoal to reduce his side’s deficit to a single goal. But more than that, it raised the spirits of the team and pushed them to turn the score around.
The match ultimately ended with the scores tied, but this was undoubtedly a performance to be remembered from the young Spaniard, which even the rival manager could not help but praise.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, he also talked to the media after the game, and faced questions from some well-known former players, i.e., Thierry Henry, Micah Richards, and Jamie Carragher.
The youngster revealed his secret to his good performances:
“I try to enjoy myself — I think that’s the secret. Not thinking about anything and just playing my football, trying to make people enjoy watching a game. I haven’t done anything yet, I still have a lot to do, and I hope the second leg goes the same way.”
The Barcelona winger was quite confident that his team will qualify for the final:
“I’ve always thought so since the beginning of the season. I trust my team a lot and I hope it turns out that way. We have to win matches like this for the team’s confidence, although I believe we’ll give it our all in the second leg and go through.”
Lamine Yamal also clarified his intentions behind the action after which the ball ended up hitting the cross bar in the final moments of the game:
“To be honest, I didn’t see Raphinha. Ferran gave it to me bouncing, and that’s why it came out like that. I wanted to shoot.”

The youngster replied in a joking manner when Henry told him he will be there for the second leg and asked him for his shirt:
“We have to make a trade. I’ll give you mine and you give me yours. From Barça, Arsenal… whichever you want.”
The La Masia graduate also picked his favorite from among the three pundits on this show:
“It came up on my TikTok. I know all of you, and just recently I saw some highlights of yours, but Henry is still Henry.”
Thierry Henry concluded the talk with some high praise for Yamal:
“Lamine, it’s a pleasure to watch you. Honestly, you’re the best player I’ve seen at your age since Messi. Keep it up, fantastic.”
There is no doubt that this was a fantastic performance from Lamine Yamal in this game. Hopefully, he will put in another such masterclass when the two sides meet once again in the second leg in a week’s time.
