Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has everything to play for in the final games of the Premier League season, even with Spurs having no chance at European football - or relegation, for that matter. You'd think that with his back to the wall, Postecoglou would get something more out of Tottenham, but, once again, Spurs were torn to shreds.

A 4-2 loss to Wolves, one of the worst teams in the Premier League, is a sobering reminder that Spurs, too, are one of the worst teams in English football. The 4-2 scoreline, if anything, flattered Tottenham, who were basically dead in the water from the moment Guglielmo Vicario flailed at a cross directly into the path of Rayan Ait-Nouri.

Therefore, it is little surprise that Vicario was the worst player on Tottenham in this one. He pretty much doomed Spurs to a loss, and whlie he was far from the only horrible performer in a game in which literally all but one starter on the team was dreadful, he holds the most culpability because of the back-breaking nature of his errors.

Guglielmo Vicario allowed two unacceptable goals

Vicario should never have conceded the first two goals Tottenham did in this one. I'd go as far as to say that no starting Premier League goalkeeper should give up those two. Vicario flailed at both the free kick and Ait-Nouri's effort like he was one of those inflatable buddies at a used car dealership.

The second goal he allowed was even worse; it was a stunning display of incompetence and a lack of awareness. Listen, you can try to nitpick Djed Spence and where he was standing, but a professional goalkeeper should always know where his defenders are and where the safest place is to parry. The way Vicario approaches crosses and shots is to throw himself violently at the ball, and whlie that allows him to make spectacular, goal-saving stops, when he doesn't control his body or think about what he's doing, he commits catastrophic mistakes - the kinds of plays that Tottenham fans won't forget as easily as those at, say, Empoli.

Meanwhile, the best player on the pitch, particularly if you only count the starters, was unequivocally James Maddison by default. It's no surprise, in a way, because Maddison has been Spurs best player this season and the only consistent attacking threat due to his combination of creativity and technical quality. With Son Heung-min in the midst of another disappointing campaign, Maddison has become even more important to Tottenham.

The former Leicester City man was the only player on Tottenham capable of finding the correct, progressive pass to turn the forwards, especially Mathys Tel, in better positions. Maddison created three chances and drew four fouls in the losing effort while completing over 90 percent of his passes despite being the only player actually capable of creating anything of note.

Mathys Tel had his bright moments and pulled a goal back for Tottenham, but when it comes to the full package of passing accuracy, value added to the team, and technical quality, Maddison was unsurprisingly head and shoulders above the rest.
