Today has been a big day in terms of updates on the future of Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz. German publication BILD broke the news earlier today that Wirtz had informed Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso of his intention to sign for Bayern Munich this summer. If that report is proven to be correct it could be a massive blow to the summer transfer plans for Manchester City. Now, two new reports have followed the BILD report. They both give the impression that Wirtz prefers a summer move to Bayern Munich.
Christian Falk has reported for CF Bayern Insider that Florian Wirtz’s agent and father, Hans-Joachim Wirtz, believes that a move to Bayern Munich is the best move for his son Florian Wirtz. Furthermore, Falk that Bayern’s top brass believe they have the advantage in the race to sign the German international. Lastly, Falk adds that the relationship between Jamal Musiala and Wirtz could be key to Bayern Munich’s pitch to Wirtz.
Florian Plettenberg has reported via X that Wirtz and his family believe the next step in his career is to sign for Bayern Munich. Plettenberg further reports that Bayern are confident of sealing a deal for Wirtz this summer. Furthermore, Plettenberg reports that transfer negotiations are yet to begin between Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich.
If today’s reports are proven to be correct then Manchester City may have to move onto other targets to add creativity to their midfield. Wirtz would fill a clear void in Pep Guardiola’s squad. His game appears to be readymade to step into City’s squad. Wirtz has the talent and pedigree to be a key player for Manchester City. But based on Falk and Plettenberg’s reports City may need to look elsewhere this summer to fill that void.
There is of course the possibility that Wirtz could believe that a move to Manchester City is best for his career. Christian Falk also reported that Pep Guardiola’s pitch has impressed the German international. But as of right now, it seems that City will need to look elsewhere this summer.
