Leicester City manager Amandine Miquel says that her side are keen to bounce back to winning ways after last weekend’s disappointing draw at Crystal Palace.

The Foxes were held to a 2-2 draw against the already-relegated Eagles. Leicester City had led twice in the game before being pegged back.

Leicester City end the campaign with a home fixture against West Ham United. When speaking to the media in the pre-match press conference, manager Miquel said that her players are keen to return to winning ways.

“We were a bit upset at the end of the game last weekend because we didn’t control it well enough and didn’t react well at 2-1,” Miquel said. “I think the players want to do better.

“It’s a completely different opponent that are in good form but we will be looking to finish strongly in our stadium.”

Latest opponents West Ham United have enjoyed an excellent season and could yet finish in the top half of the Barclays Women’s Super League table. Miquel believes that her side would have had similar success if not for a catalogue of injuries.

She said “Their project and their game plan could be really close to ours. The difference between them and us right now are the injuries. If they spent 19 games out of the 22 without a striker, which was our case, it’s a different season.

“If we had lost less players, we would be looking more like them, closer to that upper part of mid-table.”

Forward Shekiera Martinez has hit the headlines for West Ham United of late. She has netted 10 goals in just 11 Barclays Women’s Super League outings. Miquel says that Leicester City won’t change their approach to defending in a bid to contain the German.

She said “We will defend as usual. Defending is the thing that we’ve improved the most this season, so we will make sure that we stick to our defensive concepts and apply them well. We will try to limit any clear chances as much as we can by being really narrow close to our goal.”

Leicester City’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against West Ham United kicks-off at 12.30pm on Saturday afternoon. Tickets remain on-sale and can be purchased by clicking here.
