Three Takeaways from Dortmund's 2-1 comeback win over Lille

Borussia Dortmund needed to respond properly following a 1-nil loss to Augsburg on the weekend, which consequently made it harder for Black-and-Yellows to fight for European qualification. With the prospect of staying out of the Champions League through the Bundesliga, BVB played a life-or-death match against Lille to keep their hopes of reaching another European final alive. And, thankfully, they did just that, defeating the French by 2-1 at their domain.

The homeowners scored early on the match, with Jonathan David finding a deadly finish inside the box while Kobel conceded a savable ball between his legs. However, BVB did not feel the impact of Lille's opener and created a few great chances to tie the match in the first half. The French managed to balance things out around the thirtieth minute, as the Black-and-Yellows looked a little too slow in possession.

In the second half, however, the tables have turned. Serhou Guirassy got a controversial penalty call on a Thomas Meunier's foul — which really wasn't a penalty — and Emre Can converted to equalize the aggregate in 2-2. After that goal, Dortmund picked up some momentum and missed some incredible scoring chances until Maxi Beier found a screamer to materialize BVB's comeback. Lille even tried to take the match to overtime, but Borussia Dortmund guaranteed their spot in the UCL quarterfinals, in which they will face FC Barcelona.
