TVPlay’s recent report has sparked interest in north London. Tottenham Hotspur are exploring a move for Lazio’s Gustav Isaksen – a talented, pacey winger who has quietly gone about his business in Serie A, steadily climbing up Europe’s radar. In what could be one of the more strategically clever moves of the summer window, Spurs may find themselves beneficiaries of a ripple effect caused by Liverpool.
According to TVPlay, “the north London outfit ‘really like’ the Danish attacker and could launch a move for him in excess of €40million (£33.4m / $43m).” The deal, however, hinges on Lazio lining up a replacement — a need they’ve already set sights on fulfilling with Liverpool’s Federico Chiesa.

Chiesa’s time at Anfield has been turbulent. Once Italy’s next big star, the winger has failed to find rhythm in the Premier League. With first-team opportunities drying up under Arne Slot, a return to Serie A looks increasingly plausible.
Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs have often lacked consistent width and cutting edge. While Son Heung-min remains indispensable, the supporting cast of Brennan Johnson, Wilson Odobert, and youngster Mikey Moore are still developing. Isaksen offers a different dimension.
Ten goals and ten assists across all competitions paint the picture of a creative, goal-hungry winger just beginning to fulfil his potential. At 23, Isaksen’s peak years lie ahead. He’s left-footed but plays primarily from the right, and his ability to cut in echoes the profiles of modern wide forwards that thrive in high-tempo systems.
Isaksen’s path from Midtjylland to Serie A has not been smooth, but it’s been full of learning curves. Now and international footballer after making his debut for Denmark in March 2024.
Such progression marks him as a player of international calibre, and more crucially, one who is adaptable. That’s a trait Postecoglou demands from his players. As the Greek-Australian manager builds a Spurs side with more tactical fluidity, Isaksen’s versatility could be invaluable.
This rumour ticks several boxes for Spurs fans. Gustav Isaksen has the stats, the skillset, and the ceiling to be a very clever signing – particularly if his price remains under £35m. He’s got that Nordic resilience, the kind that fits in well with the demands of English football, and his ability to drift in off the right flank makes him an ideal rival or even upgrade on Brennan Johnson.
What excites most is that this isn’t a speculative link – it’s built on logic. Lazio need to move before selling, and Liverpool’s willingness to part with Chiesa adds real traction. For once, it feels like a move where Spurs are positioned ahead of the curve.
Postecoglou wants wide players who can press, create, and cut in – Isaksen ticks all of those boxes. Plus, with Son approaching the final few years of his peak, now is the right time to groom his successor or at least build stronger depth. This is the type of signing that shows ambition without being reckless.
Spurs fans have seen false dawns in the market, but this one? It feels like it has legs – especially if Liverpool do their bit.
