Last September, a report linked Tottenham center-back Cristian Romero with a summer move to Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, and Manchester United, sparking plenty of transfer speculation. Nonetheless, heading into this summer, Spurs are ensuring their star defender doesn’t depart.

PSG could be in the market for a defender this summer to replace Milan Skriniar, who left on loan to Fenerbahçe SK. However, the veteran defender has no future in the French capital, so he should depart permanently.

As a result, there will be names emerging in the rumor mill linking them to PSG, and one of them might be Romero again.

TBR Football reports that Tottenham are prepared to make Romero their highest-paid player to keep him at the club. The Argentine international’s contract runs through 2027, but Spurs are ready to offer him a new deal to secure his long-term future and make him the top earner.

However, the report also notes that one challenge Tottenham may face in negotiations is Romero’s frustration with the club’s lack of progress since his arrival.

The central defender has only played one season of Champions League football during his three and a half years in London, which is a significant concern for him.

Although there’s no specific asking price set for the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner, should Spurs decide to sell, Transfermarkt estimated his value at €65 million.
