It’s clear that this season is far from ideal for Tottenham Hotspur, and a recent report has confirmed their bad luck in a specific area.
Tottenham are flying high in the Premier League standings, but not everything is rosy at Hotspur Way.
The team have found themselves leading an unfortunate league table: injuries.
As it stands, Tottenham have endured 13 injuries, each resulting in a player missing at least one match. This unwelcome stat puts them ahead of Brighton and Ipswich Town, who are close behind with 12 injuries each.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa follow with 11. Curiously, Arsenal and Manchester City, clubs that have been vocal about their fitness woes, sit further down the list with 10 injuries apiece.
For Tottenham fans, this is not unfamiliar territory. Last season’s injury crisis from November through January saw James Maddison and Micky van de Ven sidelined for months, a spell that derailed the club’s form.
Now, history seems to be repeating itself.
The current injury list is worrying. Key players such as Micky van de Ven, Richarlison, and Wilson Odobert are unavailable.
Additionally, Cristian Romero and Son Heung-Min, two of the team’s most vital contributors, have been playing through fitness concerns. For a side aiming to challenge across all competitions, this is less than ideal.
Ange Postecoglou will be praying for better fortune as his squad navigates a packed festive schedule.
With crucial matches in the Premier League, Europa League, and an upcoming Carabao Cup tie against Manchester United, Tottenham's depth might be tested like never before.
Obviously competing on four fronts requires a healthy squad, and keeping players fit will be pivotal to any success.
Postecoglou has instilled a sense of optimism and identity in this team, but injuries could derail their momentum if not managed carefully.
If the goal for the season is to secure a Champions League spot, the outlook is rather bleak. While it’s not impossible, it becomes nearly so without being able to rely on your key players consistently.
Ange Postecoglou has, overall, done a good job, though not a flawless one, but it’s incredibly difficult to maintain momentum with such frequent ups and downs.
Tottenham will not only need to keep excelling at what they already do well and improve in areas where they fall short but will also need something else… luck.
