Tottenham transfer exclusive too good to be true for Chelsea fans

An exclusive from CaughtOffside earlier today claimed that Tottenham had got desperate enough in the depths of their recent injury crisis to bid for 3 different Chelsea players this January.

With so many players out – especially in defence – Spurs have been picking up awful results and thrashing around looking for a solution. They apparently pushed for Axel Disasi, Benoit Badiashile and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Chelsea, who are willing to let any of those players go for the right price.

There had been some whispers at the end of last year about interest from Spurs in Dewsbury-Hall, but it came to nothing. Perhaps there was more to it than we thought?

But as John Wenham said at the time: “I don’t see Tottenham going to their rivals Chelsea and saving somebody who has been a disappointing signing from their point of view.”

That could apply to all three of these players.

Chelsea unlikely to let 3 players go to top rivals

It all sounds very unlikely to us, frankly, for a number of reasons. Firstly because Chelsea would be unlikely to sell to one of their major rivals, both historically and in terms of competing for Europe this season. Secondly because Spurs would be unlikely to pay us the money we might want for these players – they’re hardly going to blow our reservations out of the water with huge bids, let’s put it that way. And thirdly (in Benoit Badiashile’s case) because he’s been injured for some time now.

The Frenchman hasn’t played since early December – when Spurs’ injury crisis wasn’t nearly as bad as it is now. They would have had to have known before Badiashile’s injury that their players would be out in the future.

We could well believe Chelsea listened to offers for those 3 from a number of teams – but a move to Tottenham was surely never on the cards.
