AC Milan and Inter played out a second consecutive 1-1 draw at San Siro last night, this time in the first leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final tie.

After a cagey first half in which Inter probed while Milan sat back, the game exploded into life in the second half. Tammy Abraham got his name on the scoresheet once again just like he did in the Supercoppa Italiana final with a lovely turn and finish in the 47th minute.

However, just like in early February, the lead was not to last as Hakan Calhanoglu equalised in the 67th minute for the Nerazzurri with a rocket of a shot from range. The game thus finished 1-1, and it means that the verdict is postponed until the return game on April 23.

The player ratings

As always we start with La Gazzetta dello Sport’s ratings, and they gave Milan’s overall performance a 6 out of 10, the same score as they gave Sergio Conceicao’s management.

Mike Maignan made several crucial saves and was the man of the match with a 7, while Christian Pulisic got a 5.5 as he struggled to get involved much.

Alex Jimenez, Riccardo Sottil, Joao Felix and Santiago Gimenez (the latter three substitutes) join Pulisic with an unsatisfactory score. Matteo Gabbia and Youssouf Fofana drew praise (6.5), while the goal scorer Tammy Abraham got a 7.

Corriere dello Sport handed out 7s to Maignan and Reijnders, while Leao, Fofana and Abraham all got half a point less than that. Theo Hernandez and Jimenez got a 5.5, with everyone else awarded a score of 6.

Finally, La Repubblica disagree regarding Maignan (5.5) as they think he was largely at fault for the equalising goal. They also criticised Kyle Walker (5), Jimenez (5.5) and Pulisic (5) for struggling to get into the rhythm of the game.

The plaudits were instead given to Gabbia, Fofana, Reijnders and Leao – who all got a 6.5 – plus finally Abraham who was awarded half a mark more.
