Former Premier League footballer and talkSPORT pundit Troy Deeney has one major concern about Jadon Sancho’s move to Chelsea.

Sancho arrived at Stamford Bridge on deadline day on an initial loan deal from Manchester United which will become permanent for in the region of £25m providing the Blues don’t finish in the bottom six of the Premier League.

The 24-year-old has made a great start to life in Blue after an impressive debut against Bournemouth in which he was named man of the match and assisted Christopher Nkunku for the winning goal.

Deeney believes Sancho doesn’t suit Chelsea’s style of play

Sancho endured a difficult three years at Old Trafford following a big money move from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 and his move to Chelsea represents a fresh start and a chance to get his career back on track.

There’s no doubting Sancho’s ability, as demonstrated on his debut last weekend and if he keeps performing to that standard he will be a regular on the left hand side throughout the season.

Sancho at his best can cause huge problems for opposition defenders, but Deeney’s concerned he doesn’t suit Chelsea’s style of play.

“I just think from a purely footballing point of view, I don’t see how Chelsea works for him, because Chelsea have worked best from what I’ve seen so far when players are running in behind and I think at Man United he didn’t suit what Ten Hag wants,” he told talkSPORT.

“He wants high pressure. He wants people to run in behind. And I don’t think that’s Jadon’s game. I think he needs to find the team he’s more suited, I say, an Arsenal and a Man City, in terms of they’re going to work it up to that area.”

It remains to be seen how Sancho does at Chelsea but if the club can provide an environment which allows him to get back to his best form on a regular basis then the Blues have a serious player on their hands and at £25m an absolute bargain.
