Igor Tudor admits he was forced to change his Juventus ideas to take on Bologna and in the circumstances is ‘content with a point’ that sends the fight for fourth down to the wire.

The Bianconeri had the perfect start at the Stadio Dall’Ara when Khephren Thuram’s strike went through Lukasz Skorupski, but Remo Freuler equalised with help from a deflection off Renato Veiga to wrongfoot Michele Di Gregorio.

“We had prepared differently to most other matches, with a 3-5-2 formation moving into spaces and battling physically,” Tudor told DAZN after the 1-1 draw.

“We know this is a Bologna side was built over several years, they have a specific type of football, fuelled by enthusiasm especially on home turf that made me decide to prepare it this way. It’s a good point, I am happy with a solid result in a stadium where everyone struggled.

“With so many problems, injuries, bans, we did well.”

Juventus were certainly decimated, as Kenan Yildiz starts his two-match ban, with Dusan Vlahovic, Teun Koopmeiners, Federico Gatti, Lloyd Kelly, Arek Milik, Gleison Bremer and Juan Cabal injured.

Randal Kolo Muani surprised Bologna by dropping deeper to send Nico Gonzalez forward, with Weston McKennie in a more advanced role too.

“We know Bologna attack you man for man, they are a very physical side, so we opted for this approach. Clearly, one always wants to play his football and take the initiative, but with all these problems we had, sometimes you need to make changes.”

Despite the hosts dominating possession, Juventus had several big chances to win the game, including two disallowed goals for offside and Alberto Costa slipping at the crucial moment.

“The lads gave their all and when you work this hard to balance Bologna’s intensity, it takes something from your sharpness. We created opportunities, but we are content with the point, all things considered.”

It means Juventus are still technically in fourth place, but level on points with Roma and Lazio now, while Bologna are one point behind them.

The battle for that precious Champions League qualification spot will go down to the wire, as there are only three rounds left to play and Juve will need to face off against Lazio.

“There are three games left and we are still fourth, albeit level on points. We go to Lazio with confidence, then there’s Udinese and Venezia,” added Tudor.

“I said before kick-off that whatever the result, nothing will be decided tonight. I am saying the same against Lazio, one game cannot decide everything when there are so many teams crammed together in a few points.

“At the end of the day, the fixtures that seem easier on paper might be the most difficult. Everyone is challenging for something at this stage of the season, especially the last against Venezia,” warned Tudor.
