AC Milan impressed against Inter, but they cannot allow themselves to ride the wave of a derby victory for too long. Instead, they must keep moving forward and Paulo Fonseca has an idea of how to do that.

In May, last weekend’s victory can be viewed in two lights – the turning point of a season, or a highlight in a poor season. If Milan and Fonseca want it to be the former, they must continue moving forward and upgrading as the season unwinds.

It can be argued that Fonseca has done this in parts so far, albeit without the results. After each game, the Portuguese coach has made tweaks, and the derby victory was the culmination of the changes so far, causing Tuttosport (via Milan News) to refer to the Rossoneri as a ‘chameleon’.

With 33 games left to play in the season, the chameleon must continue to work out its best form on a case-by-case basis. The Portuguese coach set up his side in a traditional 4-2-3-1 at the start of the season, and whilst he claimed that the structure against Inter was the same, it looked more like a 4-2-4 – an adaptation to get the better of his opponent.

Now, these adaptations must continue, and against Lecce, Fonseca must camouflage his team once again to ensure he gets the best Milan possible for each game.
