While waiting to understand how AC Milan’s season will end in Serie A and the Coppa Italia, planning is already underway for the 2025-26 season.
As Tuttosport (via SpazioMilan) writes this morning, Milan’s desire to make a major restyling of the playing side has been known for weeks now. It will start first with the choice of a new sporting director who – in turn – will participate in the choice of Sergio Conceicao’s heir on the bench.
Their headline reads as follows: ‘Milan, Furlani in command: first the sporting director then the new coach. It’s time to make decisions at the Rossoneri. The sporting director is the first decision, followed by Conceicao’s successor.’
In recent weeks, several names have been linked to the Rossoneri, but in the last few hours there has been a significant piece of news regarding who is in pole position to take up the vacant director role.
One of the first names linked was Igli Tare. The Albanian is waiting for a new project after his long experience as a manager at Lazio and he is a profile that could be right for Milan, given his eye for talent and experience working with a non-infinite budget.
He is very different from Fabio Paratici, who is more of an ‘international’ name that Tare. He is a name that Milan likes a lot because he has winning experience and has pulled off some big deals, but above all he participates in day-to-day squad management and is close to the team.
However, Tare and Paratici are not the only names explored by CEO Giorgio Furlani, who also met with some of the candidates recently. In fact, the favourite would be Tony D’Amico of Atalanta, in pole position compared to the other candidates.
As mentioned above, once the new sporting director is in place it will be up to he and Furlani to pick Conceicao’s successor, who is destined to say goodbye at the end of the season barring a miracle.
The names on Furlani’s list are Vincenzo Italiano, Max Allegri, Roberto De Zerbi, Antonio Conte and Gian Piero Gasperini, with the current Bologna coach reported to be the name that is gaining the most traction.
A final decision, however, will be made in conjunction with the new director. For this reason, one will first need to be appointed. The candidates all share a common thread: they are Italian, and have experience in Serie A (De Zerbi not as a coach but as a player).
