Paris Saint-Germain are in the driving seat in their UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Aston Villa thanks to a 3-1 win at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night. However, the scorer of the final goal, Nuno Mendes, is wary of the threat that the Premier League side can pose ahead of the second leg, at Villa Park.

The Birmingham-based side went ahead in the first half thanks to Morgan Rogers, however, PSG’s dominance did eventually tell. Désiré Doué levelled the scores before half-time before Khivcha Kvaratskhelia put them ahead early in the second-half. It looked as if PSG would take just a one-goal advantage to Birmingham before Mendes stepped up in injury time to give his side a two-goal cushion.

But there is no room for complacency. “This third goal gives us a lot more confidence. A two-goal advantage is good but we have to continue,” said the Portugal international in a mixed zone interview attended by Get French Football News.

He added, “We still have a match to play. Two goals, I think it’s nothing. If they score in the first half, it will be difficult because they will be at home.”
