Inter Milan will be looking to sign a new central defender next summer, with Jaka Bijol reportedly on top of their wishlist.
On Saturday, the Nerazzurri will clash heads with Udinese in a Serie A contest at the Bluenergy Stadium in Friuli.
According to Il Corriere dello Sport via FcInterNews, this will be an inviting opportunity for Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio to monitor Bijol.
The management of Inter has been tracking the Slovenian for quite some time now. There were even reports in the summer linking the 25-year-old with a move to Appiano Gentile.
Bijol has been plying his trade in Udine since 2022, gradually establishing himself as one of the most resolute defenders in Italian football.
The former CSKA Moscow man has been producing impressive displays once more this season. He has thus far helped the club secure a high position in the table.
The only exception was last weekend’s disappointing showing against Roma. The Zebrette suffered a 0-3 defeat at the Olimpico.
But aside from that, Bijol has been superb at the back, solidifying his status as an Inter transfer target.
As the Roman newspaper explains, the Nerazzurri will likely need at least one new central defender next summer.
Simone Inzaghi is currently relying on two ageing players in this role, namely Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij.
Moreover, both veterans are running on expiring contracts, leaving their futures at the club up in the air.
So with his strong physique and solid displays at the heart of the Udinese backline, Bijol emerged as a primary candidate to join the Italian champions.
The source believes the Slovenia international would cost Inter a figure between 15 and 20 million euros.
