Player ratings can be subjective to an extent. Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa saw too mixed of a reaction after England's 2-0 win over Albania, however. This isn't to take anything away from Dan Burn. The 32-year-old debutant is having a great week for himself between club and country after all. His aerial battles with Armando Broja, for instance, showcased a strength of his. The Newcastle man also nearly scored off set pieces, even hitting the woodwork.
Too many following the World Cup qualifier, however, underrated the performance of Konsa. In what can be a limited game to evaluate the backline, the CB had a strong game for the Three Lions. He is someone who can silently have a good day on the pitch and is often overlooked by those not paying close enough attention.
That being said, too many are overlooking Konsa's role in Thomas Tuchel's first game in charge. The England boss took something of a chance, as many believed Marc Guéhi should have received the nod. The German has made it clear early on that he will play who he believes best fits his system, ignoring the outside noise as best as he can.
Regardless of the politics of the selections, the Albania match once again showed how Konsa is as underrated as they come while still being excellent. The opposition's chances were few and far between, with England controlling the ball for much of the game. This made the timely intervention and his mental focus that much more important during a win that easily could have turned for the worse off one mental error.
