Chelsea have clawed their way back into the race for the Champions League race with 3 games in a row, and it’s only getting more exciting as we go.

They’ll need Cole Palmer to keep up his form if they want to get over the line after he was back to his best on Sunday, and speaking after the game on the Gary Neville podcast, Sky’s top pundit waxed lyrical about the attacker’s 96 minute showing.

Neville on outstanding Palmer’s performance

“When you watch him today… there were really special things out there on that pitch… what he did to Curtis Jones on that first goal was really special… that got Chelsea going. Sometimes you have a player who is a standout player. The other [attackers] are nowhere near his level. Like David Silva, Mo Salah, Kevin de Bruyne, they look like they’ve got so much time.”

You can see them discuss it in the clip embedded here:

Neville also had some praise for some other outstanding performers from the win over Liverpool, but clearly isn’t convinced in the long term by Enzo Maresca squeezing three central midfielders into his team by playing Moises Caicedo at right back.

“I really like Caicedo in midfield, I like Lavia a lot, he’s just got to keep fit… I don’t think Caicedo at right back is along term solution,” the pundit said, noting that for all his good work, the Ecuador star was eventually moved inside as he started to struggle against the width Liverpool were generating.

It was also interesting that Neville dismissed Palmer’s partnership Nicolas Jackson up front as having no connection:

“What was clear today was that… there’s no real partnership there.”

That’s something a lot of fans would disagree with – we’ve seen lots of chemistry between them in the last two years.
