Liverpool skipper Virgil van Dijk has dropped a big hint on his future after the Reds lost 2-1 against Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup on Sunday at Wembley.
The Reds were lacklustre and poor, and they hardly put up any fight. The players looked jaded and made several mistakes during the game.
Van Dijk himself wasn’t at his best, as he couldn’t prevent Alexander Isak from scoring.
The Dutchman is a colossal figure at the club, but his future (along with Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold) has come under intense speculation, with only a few months remaining on his current deal.
Liverpool have been trying to secure deals for all three of them, but as of now, there hasn’t been enough progress.
Van Dijk has now confirmed that his future will be sorted, one way or the other, before the end of the season.
Arne Slot said recently that he wants Van Dijk to stay at the club beyond the summer, but he is not involved in the negotiation process.
Van Dijk is arguably one of the best defenders in the world, and he has a great opportunity to lift the Premier League trophy at the end of the season. Even if he leaves in the summer, he will forever be remembered by the fans as a club legend.
Van Dijk has played every game in the Premier League this season, and he has not allowed his performance level to drop by an inch. The 33-year-old centre-back can easily play for two more years at the highest level, but whether he will sign a contract extension at Anfield still remains unclear.
