After the final whistle, cameras caught a special encounter between Thierry Henry and Lamine Yamal that underlined the mutual admiration between generations.

The story dates back to the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final clash between Barcelona and Inter Milan. Henry, working as a commentator for British television, could not help but heap praise on the young Barça prodigy.

So impressed was the former Arsenal and Barcelona striker with Yamal’s performance that he cheekily asked him for a shirt, on behalf of his son.

Lamine, never one to shy away from a bit of charm himself, agreed on one condition: “We have to make a trade. I’ll give you mine, and you give me yours. Barça, Arsenal… whatever you want.”

A promise fulfilled

It was a promise sealed with a smile back then, and it was finally fulfilled in the most fitting setting possible.

Following Barcelona’s dramatic El Clasico win that effectively secured them the La Liga title, Henry and Yamal met in the dressing room at Montjuic to make good on their pact.
