Trent Alexander-Arnold is on the verge of leaving Liverpool to join Real Madrid in the summer transfer window, multiple reliable sources have already confirmed.

The 26-year-old England international’s contract with the Reds expires at the end of the season and he has decided not to renew but start a new chapter in his career at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Fan backlash for Alexander-Arnold

Alexander-Arnold’s decision, even though it is yet to be confirmed officially, has not gone down well with Liverpool fans, considering that the right-back is a homegrown talent who came through the club’s youth ranks.

Since rumours first surfaced that the right-back could leave Anfield on a free transfer this summer, criticism from supporters has steadily increased, and it appears to have now reached boiling point.

Indeed, as reports from multiple sources confirmed that Alexander-Arnold is set to wear the Real Madrid shirt next season, Liverpool fans have ramped up their disapproval. What started as vocal discontent has escalated into visible outrage.

In one such reaction, a Liverpool fan posted a video on social media showing themselves burning Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool shirt, with the clip going viral very soon.

While it is natural for fans to be upset over the possibility of seeing a homegrown talent leave, that too on a free transfer, burning the player’s jersey would seem like taking things a bit too far.

It must be noted that there has been no confirmation of the move yet and neither Alexander-Arnold nor the two clubs have made any declarations.

But with the season set to resume after the international break, one can expect Liverpool manager Arne Slot and Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti to be bombarded with questions about Alexander-Arnold each time they come out for a press conference.
