So far the 24/25 season has been a learning experience for Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s side has faced issues they’ve never faced before during this campaign. Injuries, fatigue, and the loss of form of a host of key players have hit the world champions hard this season. But the lessons that Pep Guardiola and his team will learn this season could prove to be invaluable going forward.

Speaking after Manchester City’s 2-all draw with Brentford, Phil Foden believes he has learnt more this season than in any other of his career. But despite City’s issues this season Foden still believes in his team. In an interview that was published by Jack Gaughan for the Daily Mail Phil Foden explained: “I think I’ve learned the most from this season, to be honest. I’ve not been in this situation before where I’ve lost this many games. So it’s a learning curve, and it’s just about how you get back to your best. Not just me, but the team as well. And how we come back from this. I still believe in the team, I still believe we can do good things – having that belief, to keep going, don’t give up.

Phil Foden’s statement following Manchester City’s draw with Brentford could be applied to the whole club. After winning four consecutive Premier League titles and every other competition in between this season has been a battle for Manchester City. There are lessons to be taken from this season for the club. They can’t be so heavily reliant on one player in Rodri. Manchester City must also enter next season and the future with a bigger squad. On the pitch, they can’t be so reliant on older players. The game now requires something different than what Pep Guardiola’s side currently has. Those are just some of the lessons for City this season. There will be more to take from the 24/25 campaign when it’s all said and done.

While the 24/25 season has been well below Manchester City’s usual high standards there are lessons to be learnt from it for Pep Guardiola, the Manchester City hierarchy and his players. If they can take those lessons on board and use them to plan for the future, this season could prove to be an invaluable experience for the entire club.
