The WSL action this weekend kicks off with Arsenal’s visit to Manchester United. The hosts have won three of their four league matches this season, while the Gunners have won only two of five.

Arsenal are also in the process of appointing a new manager following the departure of Jonas Eidevall. While the north London club have been able to pick up two wins under interim boss Renee Slegers, it remains to be seen how they will now fare against tougher opposition.

That being said, many of the big games between top teams this season have been extremely close encounters. Sunday’s meeting at Leigh Sports Village will likely be no different.

Prediction: Manchester United 2-2 Arsenal

Brighton vs Leicester City (2pm)

It’s been a mixed start to the season for Leicester City under new manager Amandine Miquel as they sit mid-table with just one win from their first five games. Brighton, on the other hand, have been the surprise package as they sit fourth in the standings.

The Seagulls have won three of their first five matches, and have lost just once. They have scored ten, and conceded just four, placing them in a positive goal difference.

Given Brighton’s strong start, they come into Sunday’s game at home to the Foxes as clear favourites. It will be a tight contest, but the hosts should have enough to get over the line.

Prediction: Brighton 2-0 Leicester City

Crystal Palace vs Manchester City (2pm)

Crystal Palace have surprised many with their strong start to the 2024/25 season. As a newly promoted side, they have had mixed results, but have elevated themselves off the bottom of the table in recent weeks.

However, Manchester City are in the early stages of a title challenge once again as they sit top of the standings, having played a game more than closest rivals Chelsea and Manchester United. They are yet to lose in the WSL this term, and Sunday will likely be no different.

While Palace have shown they are able to take points off teams in and around them, the visit of City will likely be too big of a task for Laura Kaminski’s side. Even in games City have struggled or fallen behind, they have found a way to come out on top.

Prediction: Crystal Palace 0-4 Manchester City

Tottenham vs West Ham (2pm)

Sunday’s meeting between Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham is one of the tougher games to call. The Hammers are currently bottom of the standings on goal difference, but are yet to win this season.

Robert Vilahamn’s side, on the other hand, have looked strong in moments, but have struggled in others. This means it will likely be a closely contested game at Brisbane Road this weekend.

That being said, with the quality Spurs have in attack, they should have enough to come out on top. But only just.

Prediction: Tottenham 2-1 West Ham

Aston Villa vs Liverpool (4:30pm)

Liverpool travel to face Aston Villa this weekend and will be in search of their second win of the season. The hosts, on the other hand, are yet to pick up three points, despite the fact they have looked promising in moments.

Villa will have the home advantage, and Liverpool have looked somewhat unstable in defence this season. Matt Beard’s side have conceded goals that were rare last season, and they haven’t looked anywhere near as imposing.

But, they also have the quality within their ranks to cause Villa problems. A draw is the most likely outcome, and in similar fashion to Villa’s 2-2 draw against Spurs earlier in the season.

Prediction: Aston Villa 2-2 Liverpool

Everton vs Chelsea (6:45pm)

The weekend’s action will end with Chelsea’s visit to face Everton at Goodison Park. Chelsea have had a strong start to the season, and are showing no signs of slowing down.

Everton, on the other hand, have been hit with a number of injuries in the early weeks of the campaign. But, they were still able to hold on to a 0-0 draw away at Arsenal earlier this month, which will have injected plenty of confidence.

It won’t necessarily be a walkover for Chelsea, but they should brush the Toffees aside with some ease on Sunday.
