Young Newcastle United stars do the double over Liverpool – Great to see | OneFootball

Back in September, the young Newcastle United stars went to Merseyside and picked up a thrilling 3-2 away win over Liverpool.

On Saturday, it was the turn of the Newcastle United Under 18s to host their Liverpool counterparts.

At a sunny Little Benton, it took just five minutes for Kareem Ahmed to score for the visitors.

A great save from United’s Will Anderson kept the score down to one when deflecting a goalbound effort onto the woodwork.

Then in a first half of few clear chances for either side, Kacey Wooster hit the woodwork for United.

After the break though, the young Newcastle United stars turned it on.

Recent signing from Galway United, Kyle Fitzgerald, played his part in helping to set up the equaliser for Michael Mills on 51 minutes.

Michael Mills then helped set up centre-forward Kacey Wooster to put Newcastle 2-1 up ten minutes later.

Exciting prospect Mills then within a minute denied by a good save from making the game safe.

That wasn’t to last though, as Kyle Fitzgerald won a penalty with 75 minutes gone and Wooster got his second goal for a commanding 3-1 victory

Difficult to ignore the influence here of young talent Newcastle United have actively scouted from elsewhere.

Unlike under Mike Ashley, the current NUFC owners understanding that putting serious investment into scouting the best young players from home and abroad, is a vital part of potential future success.

As I mentioned, Kyle Fitzgerald who helped set up two of the goals, recently arrived from Galway.

Whilst two goal Kacey Wooster is still only 16 but was taken from Southend United back in September 2023.

Then the other goalscorer, the very exciting prospect Michael Mills, was nabbed from Port Vale aged only 14 back in August 2023 and just turned 16 last week.

So the young Newcastle United stars completed a league double over Liverpool, great to see.
