The agent of goalkeeper Josep Martinez says that he’s “ready” to fill in for teammate Yann Sommer at Inter Milan.

Agent Sergio Barilla spoke to Italian outlet FCInterNews. He assured that the 26-year-old can step up, despite his lack of playing time this season.

Goalkeeper Josep Martinez will soon get his chance in the Inter starting eleven.

The Spaniard signed for Inter last summer from Genoa. He arrived as the backup for Yann Sommer in goal, but also as the veteran keeper’s long-term heir between the posts.

Nevertheless, Martinez has yet to make a start in Serie A.

The former RB Leipzig and Las Palmas keeper did get a chance in the starting eleven against Udinese in the Coppa Italia.

However, a start has yet to arrive for Martinez in the league (or in the Champions League).

Yann Sommer has picked up an injury. Inter confirmed that medical tests today revealed a thumb fracture for the Swiss.

Therefore, Josep Martinez will have to step up and play in place of Sommer.

The Spaniard’s first Serie A start for Inter will come against his old team Genoa on Saturday evening.

Then, Martinez will also be in the starting eleven for the following weekend’s potential title decider against Napoli.

Martinez’s agent Sergio Barilla commented that “As I always say, Josep is strong, he’s a high-level player.”

“I’m calm,” said the agent of the prospect of Martinez starting. “He’ll do well”

“He’s ready for it,” Barilla made clear.

Meanwhile, Martinez’s agent said that the goalkeeper “has the right mentality as a professional.”

“That means he’s a player who knows he must and can be ready for moments like this.”

“It’s not a problem for him that he’s only played ninety minutes this season,” said Martinez’s agent. “I believe in his quality and mentality 100%.”
