Albertini: Milan’s season ‘unacceptable’ even with Coppa Italia win

Former Milan midfielder Demetrio Albertini believes the Rossoneri should not be satisfied with their season, even if they win the Coppa Italia, calling it ‘unacceptable’ for the Diavolo to be ‘so far from its goals’.
Sergio Conceiçao has the chance to win a second trophy in his short stint at the San Siro, after having already steered his side to winning the Supercoppa Italiana only days after his appointment.

On the other hand, Vincenzo Italiano will be eager to win his first final after losing three during his time at Fiorentina, a victory that would further enhance what has already been an exciting season for Bologna.
“I believe we will see a great final, in the sense that Milan showed quality in their last match,” Albertini told MilanNews.
“What has been missing this season is consistency, but in knockout games, the team played very well.
“Bologna have done extraordinary things, surpassing last season with a great sporting performance.
“In a final, the odds don’t matter much. I’ve won Champions League titles as the underdog and lost as the favourite.
“Therefore, it doesn’t matter who is favoured, but what Milan will show up on the field. And this year, we’ve seen many different Milans, while Bologna has had a more consistent performance.”
While many indicated Conceiçao’s decision to switch to a 3-4-3 formation as a decisive turning point in Milan’s season, Albertini believes that time is a more relevant factor.
“I wouldn’t focus too much on the new formation, but rather on the fact that Conceição had time to get to know the players and made some choices,” the former midfielder said.

“At first, he kept changing players in the starting lineup, but now there’s a group that plays more or less consistently.
“Some tough choices have been made, and this has given the team a different approach. I’d say it’s more about how the system is interpreted, the context, and what is built within the group.
“And let’s not forget, changing things in January isn’t easy, integrating new players into a group that’s been working since the summer is not simple.”
But would a Coppa Italia win be enough to save the season?
“For me, no,” Albertini claimed.
“I hope Milan can lift the cup and celebrate, because winning is always difficult.
“However, I believe that Milan, in their history, cannot be so far from their goals and not think about the fans who go to the stadium for a daily objective. That’s unacceptable.”
