Real Madrid’s hopes of a heroic turnaround against Arsenal were dashed by the Gunners on Wednesday evening, as they secured a 2-1 win at Santiago Bernabeu.

The victory meant that Gunners advanced to the semifinals with a whopping 5-1 aggregate win over Real Madrid – a result that has not impressed the Los Blancos faithful.

Addressing the media after the game, Ancelotti talked about his failed plans against Arsenal while also answering questions on his future at the club.

What Ancelotti said after Arsenal loss

First and foremost, Ancelotti addressed the loss to Arsenal, admitting that the Gunners deserve to go through after such fine performances.

“To change the dynamic, we needed something, maybe the penalty they took away from us. Something, we needed something.

“But we have to be honest, Arsenal deserved it in both games. Football has a happy side and a sad side. We’ve seen the happy side many times, today we got the sad side,” he said (h/t MARCA).

Shortly after, Ancelotti was asked questions about his future at Real Madrid, especially amid recent speculation over a potential exit.

“Now we’re fighting for LaLiga, we have the Copa del Rey final, we have the Club World Cup… It’s a never-ending season, but you have to pick yourself up; it’s another part of football we’re not used to.

“My future? I don’t know what my future will be, and I don’t want to know,” he said.

“I can’t answer you now, I don’t know,” he added to a question on whether he would still be coaching Real Madrid by the start of the FIFA Club World Cup.

When asked about his failed plan against Arsenal, Ancelotti refused to diagnose this game tactically.

“It’s a disappointment, but making an analysis today isn’t right. We have to hold our heads high and admit that this season hasn’t been ours. There are no invincible teams,” he said.

Ancelotti was also asked if this was his final Champions League game, possibly before he moves to pastures new this summer.

“I don’t know. I’ve already said it, the day I finish here I’ll only do one thing: thank the club. Whether my contract ends or not, it doesn’t matter to me. I haven’t thought for a moment that I won’t be the coach for Real Madrid,” the Italian answered.

On whether or not he is the only one to blame for the Arsenal loss, the coach added, “That doesn’t matter to me, it doesn’t change my mind. I’m going to prepare for La Liga and the Copa del Rey final. Compared to last year, we’ve lacked a collective attitude.”

Ancelotti, though, did interestingly say ‘no’ when he was asked whether he would like to change anything from the tie across the two legs.

Finally, the Italian addressed questions over Real Madrid’s lack of committment and how the team must prepare themselves mentally.

“We have to handle this sad moment well because we have some very important matches coming up. Ceballos wasn’t at 100 percent and that’s why he didn’t start the game. I’m not worried about the squad’s mental response; we have to learn to be better,” he concluded.
