When it rains at Tottenham Hotspur, it pours. With the club already battling an unbelievable injury list, they have been further hit by another blow today.

Spurs are preparing for their crucial Europa League meeting against TSG Hoffenheim in Germany. The north Londoners are desperate for three points that would take them into the automatic qualification spots.

However, injuries have threatened to throw a wrench in those works after midfielder Pape Matar Sarr pulled out of training today with an unspecified issue.

The 22-year-old has been a mainstay in the Europa League, playing all six matches. He was expected to anchor the midfield with Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur sidelined.

The Senegalese midfielder has not been in the best form but will be a massive miss against the Bundesliga side.

Now, manager Ange Postecoglou must reconsider his strategy as he needs to add steel to the engine room to break down opposition attacks and screen the already brittle defence.

Postecoglou might turn to one of Archie Gray or Lucas Bergvall to sit deep in the engine room and pull the strings.

The latest injury blow has amplified the need for Spurs to enter the market and secure a defensive midfielder.

Tottenham have been linked to a host of attackers and defenders, but one area that needs to be plugged is the base of midfield, where they are light.

Tottenham could use another holding midfielder, and it is a travesty that the club hasn’t been linked to one when it is a pressing issue.

Bissouma and Matar Sarr have been dreadful together and individually, particularly drawing the ire of fans for their abysmal display in the north London derby.

Bentancur has had discipline and injury issues, leaving a gaping hole that the top brass should be working to fill this window or next.
