Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez was back to his “real self” against Venezia, but Marko Arnautovic has faced criticism.
Today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, contrast the performances from the two strikers in the Serie A clash.
Inter captain Martinez did not manage to get on the scoresheet yesterday.
That will come as a bit of a disappointment. He’ll surely have been hoping to build on his goals against Cagliari and AC Milan in recent weeks.
However, Martinez did just about everything but score.
It was Martinez’s first-time shot that forced Venezia keeper Filip Stankovic to parry the ball into the path of Matteo Darmian who finished for Inter’s opener yesterday.
That was a key moment that was worth the three points for Nerazzurri. Even if it’s not Martinez’s name that was on the scoresheet.
In general, Martinez looked sharp in and around the penalty area, even if he couldn’t turn it into a goal.
And as always, the Argentine worked his socks off for the team.
That led to Inter coach Simone Inzaghi taking his captain off in the second half.
It was Marko Arnautovic who replaced Martinez.
But in truth, Tuttosport argues, Arnautovic looked out of sorts. He gave the ball away and looked unable to really link up with his teammates.
