Arsenal ‘close to winning race’ for €30m La Liga star | OneFootball

Arsenal are close to winning the race to sign Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia.

The Gunners have agreed a deal to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad and are now nearing an agreement for a second La Liga target.

Garcia has starred this season, with the goalkeeper’s heroics helping Espanyol consolidate in La Liga after promotion last season. The 24-year-old leads the division for saves (130) and expected goals prevented (9.3) in an outstanding individual season.

Arsenal tried and failed to sign Garcia last summer, before signing the experienced Neto on loan from Bournemouth to act as cover and competition for David Raya.

The Independent are reporting that the North Londoners are now closing in on Garcia. Mikel Arteta wants to bring in the Spanish shot-stopper to push compatriot Raya for a place at the Emirates.

Manchester United, Aston Villa and Barcelona have also all been linked with Garcia, who has a release clause of €30m (£25.3m) in his contract at Espanyol.

Arsenal are pushing ahead with plans to make additions, following a fifth consecutive campaign without silverware. In addition to Zubimendi and Garcia, the Gunners are keen to bring in a centre-forward and winger ahead of next season.
