Jorginho and Riccardo Calafiori are once again set to miss out for Arsenal when they take on Bournemouth on Saturday, Mikel Arteta has said.
Jorginho has been out since last month after suffering an injury to his chest.
Calafiori, meanwhile, has not played for the Gunners since March after injuring his knee while on international duty with Italy.
And Arteta has cast doubt on whether either will be able to return for the Champions League semi-final second leg against PSG next week, with both not ready to play against Bournemouth.
On Jorginho’s injury, Arteta said: “It’s got a bit more complicated than expected.
“Thankfully, he’s fine, he’s feeling good, he’s recovering well, but it was a bit more than what we wanted.
“I think I’ll leave it to the doctor if he wants to clarify or Jorginho to do that personally.”
The Italian midfielder is set to re-join the team over the next week or so though, Arteta added.
“I think so, yeah. Hopefully, if everything goes well in the next week or so, I think he will.”
Arteta provided a positive update on Kai Havertz, however, revealing that he is likely to return before the season ends.
“I think so, I think if everything goes the way it’s going at the moment and the way it’s planned, I think he will have a chance to play a few games in the season,” he said.
On whether any of the three could play in the second leg against PSG, he said: “I wouldn’t rule all of them out. Let’s see in the next few days how they react.”
Arteta also reflected on the impact injuries have had on his side this season, continuing: “The thing is that we live every day with what we have.
“I was very shocked just before the game against PSG at home because I was walking into the dressing room and suddenly I saw all of them together seated. It was Tomiyasu, next to him Calafiori, next to him Gabriel Magalhaes, next to him Thomas Partey, Kai Havertz, next to him Gabriel Jesus, next to him Jorginho.
“I said that’s a starting line-up, and we don’t have them and we haven’t had them for many, many months.
“Then I felt joy about the team and what they are doing and how they are trying. Nobody is talking about it in the building at all. But it’s happening, and I felt pride about how the boys and the staff and the club are reacting to these situations.”
