Lazio left-back Nuno Tavares was thrilled after finally earning his first senior cap for the Portuguese national team.

The 24-year-old joined the Biancocelesti in the summer, completing a loan move from Arsenal with an option to buy. From the early week of the campaign, the former Benfica star presented himself as one of the best revelations in Serie A. I’m happy with my first appearance in the national team and moreso with the victory. I know it’s difficult to get here, there’s a lot of competition, but I like to be among the best and that’s the most important thing. The competition is pushing us towards higher levels. I’ll continue to work hard to keep my spot with Portugal.

We have a good squad at Lazio, which is the most important thing . We have the flair, the right chemistry and we are managing to put everything into practice. When you play for a team that maintains possession and is often in the opposition’s areas, it is easier to stand out.
