Atlético Madrid rival Arsenal for key summer transfer target | OneFootball

The brass at La Liga giants Atlético Madrid are ready to position themselves in the race for the signature of one of European football’s most coveted stars.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who point towards Viktor Gyökeres as the player in question.

Frontman Gyökeres, for his part, is in the midst of another spectacular individual campaign to date.

On the books of Portuguese outfit Sporting CP, the 26-year-old has racked up a remarkable 52 goals and 12 assists, in 49 appearances across all competitions.

Such stellar production has not gone at all unnoticed across the continent, amid interest in Gyökeres’ services on the part of the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Bayern Munich.

And as alluded to above, this week, one of Spanish football’s top clubs, too, have thrown their hat in the ring for the Swede.

As per MD:

‘Atlético de Madrid have made a formal inquiry into the player’s situation. The club knows it won’t be easy for him to join the Metropolitano this summer, but they will have a partner to try to make the deal happen. It’s Nike.’

For a move to Atlético to become a real possibility for Gyökeres, though, it is also noted that one or both of Antoine Griezmann and Ángel Correa would likely need to move on.
