Barcelona currently undecided on Iñaki Peña contract renewal | OneFootball

With Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s long-term injury suffered in September, the backup goalie position at Barcelona has been critical this season.

While La Masia graduate Iñaki Peña initially claimed the position, Wojciech Szczesny has taken over as backup keeper in recent weeks.

All this has led to rumours that the club are changing their stance on whether to renew the 25-year-old’s contract or not.

As per Mundo Deportivo, talks between Barcelona and Iñaki Peña are currently up in the air, and the goalkeeper’s contract is set to expire next season.

Given the recent wave of renewals coming out of the Catalan club in recent days and weeks, the fact that nothing regarding Peña has been discussed yet can’t be a good sign.

The strange dynamic at the club between Peña and Szczesny, as they compete for the starting spot, is seemingly playing a rather big factor in negotiations, and it will be interesting to see if the Spanish goalkeeper attempts to secure a move elsewhere.
