At the end of February, FC Barcelona were finally able to successfully complete the sale of Vitor Roque to the Brazilian side Palmeiras, despite this being one of the more complicated transfer operations for them in some years.
However, all the involved sides were able to come to an agreement, under which the Blaugranes got €25.5 million in fixed fee and can get another €5 million in variables, while also keeping 20% of the rights on the striker.
Thus, this operation allowed them to ensure they would not make any loss on Roque, but ideally, the young striker should have succeeded at the Catalan club and could have remained there for years.
But this was not to be, and several reasons contributed to his quick return to Brazil. As SPORT has reported, the Barcelona Sporting Director, Deco, highlighted some of these responsible factors as he talked to the media during last night’s game in the UCL.
The Portuguese official identified the timing of his arrival in Spain as one such contributing factor:
“It could have been a timing issue. He arrived in a difficult transfer window, like January, and after overcoming a complicated injury. It was very tough for him, and things didn’t turn out as expected.”
Further expanding on his January move, the Barcelona executive went on to say:
“Vitor Roque has the qualities to succeed. Perhaps if he had arrived at Barça in June, with a new coach and a full pre-season, everything would have been different. But things are the way they are, and the best outcome for everyone was his departure. He is 19 years old, a great kid, and I wish him the best in his football career.”
Roque now has another chance to get his career back on track and go on to live up to the expectations that he set with his performances in Brazil. Hopefully, he will be able to repeat his feats with Palmeiras now, and might return to Europe in the future.
