One of the main targets for FC Barcelona for the upcoming summer transfer window is to strengthen the right-back position.
While Jules Kounde has excelled in the position as a starter, manager Hansi Flick does not seem to be fully convinced by the backup options.
Hector Fort has not been used regularly by the German tactician, who has instead placed his trust in Eric Garcia to operate as a makeshift right-back in Kounde’s absence.
As such, Deco & co. have made it a point to bring in a new right-back before next summer to compete with and cover for Kounde.
One name that seems to have generated the total consensus within the Barcelona sporting department for the position happens to be Bayer Leverkusen ace Jeremie Frimpong.
Deco and Flick both view the Netherlands right-back as the perfect fit as he offers physical strength, pace, and a constant attacking outlet on the flank. However, finances could be an issue for Barcelona in pursuit of the Dutchman.

According to Fabrizio Romano, signing Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer could cost around €35-40 million in total.
The 24-year-old Dutchman has a release clause in his contract with the Bundesliga giants which will be active this summer. As such, the total package to swoop him away from the BayArena could reach up to €40 million.
Given the young right-back’s performances over the past couple of seasons, a number of top clubs across Europe have been tracking him, making him a player to watch out for heading into the summer.
What now remains to be seen is whether Barcelona, who are clearly interested in a player of his ilk, are prepared to, or rather are in a position to shell out the €35-40 million package needed to secure his signing.
The Catalans are also looking at other, more affordable options such as Andrei Ratiu (Rayo Vallecano) and Marc Pubill (Almeria) as potential options.
