Barcelona are trying to sign former Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood from Olympique de Marseille, as per reports.
United academy product Greenwood has found his feet away from Manchester, having established himself as a key part of Roberto De Zerbi’s side in the south of France.
The Red Devils sold the 23-year-old to Marseille last summer in a deal worth £26.6 million and he took little time to adapt to French football.
Greenwood, who has played all across the frontline for the Phocaeans, has an impressive 14 goals and four assists in Ligue 1 this term, leading to interest from Barcelona.
According to Fichajes, Barcelona have “once again” set their sights on Greenwood in their bid to strengthen their attack.
Barca reportedly see Greenwood as their priority target, ahead of Athletic Club prodigy Nico Williams, as he is seen as a player with enormous potential.
However, it is not going to be easy for the Blaugrana to sign the Englishman, as Marseille are expected to demand a considerable transfer fee. It is understood the figure being discussed is around €75m (£62.1m).
The La Liga leaders, who find themselves in a financial predicament, could only move forward in their pursuit by making a major sale.
The Spanish outlet add that club president Joan Laporta has asked sporting director Deco to “take charge of the negotiations” and to closely follow Greenwood’s progress in France.
United should also be keeping a close eye on the development as they have a 50 percent sell-on clause.
Such a major move would boost the Mancunians’ transfer budget, who themselves are keen on reinforcing Ruben Amorim’s attack.
Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Bayern Munich are also interested in Greenwood.
