The FC Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi was unable to feature in the second leg of the UEFA Nations League quarter-final tie between Spain and The Netherlands last night, as he had suffered a physical problem in the first leg of this tie.
The young defender was taken off the pitch a few minutes before the halftime break after starting in that match and was replaced by another highly exciting talent born in The Netherlands but who plays for Spain, Dean Huijsen.
His performance for Luis de la Fuente’s side in that game confirmed to the fans the talent and skill that he possesses, and also the ability to resist pressure as he was constantly booed by the Dutch crowds for choosing Spain over their national team in that game.
There is no doubt that he is emerging as one of the more exciting centre-backs in Europe, and has attracted the attention of some of the biggest sides on the continent.
According to SPORT, Barcelona are one of the clubs that are interested in him, even though the Blaugranes have other priorities for the upcoming summer. Meanwhile, their rivals, Real Madrid, have already made some moves for his signing.
The Catalans might find it difficult to sign him as he is not expected to undertake a move for less than €45 million, while his release clause is €50 million, and will remain so till 2030 when his current contract expires. Furthermore, they already have a surplus of center-backs and will prioritize strengthening other areas of the team in the coming summer.
Real Madrid, on the other hand, want more Spanish players in their squad, and Huijsen will be a very welcome addition for Carlo Ancelotti keeping in view their thin defensive line this season.
Furthermore, Liverpool and Tottenham are also in the race, and they will have no problems reaching the €55 million bid that Bournemouth are expected to demand for their prized asset. However, the La Liga clubs can take advantage of Huijsen’s desire to return to Spain.
