The work never stops at FC Barcelona, even when there is no transfer window open. For La Blaugrana, it is essential that they approach such windows with caution, however. Barcelona have made similar mistakes before, and they cannot afford to make them again.
However, certain opportunities are simply too good to pass up on. Despite the fact that there is still a lot of time left before the summer transfer window even opens, Barcelona will be keen on finding any good opportunity that comes their way.
One such opportunity may now have presented itself in the form of a certain Premier League defender. According to Fichajes, that particular defender would be none other than 33-year-old Liverpool superstar and leader Virgil van Djik.
A pillar of his team, the Dutch defender is still at the top of his game. Seen as one of the best center-backs in world football, he currently has a contract that will expire at the end of this season, and Barcelona are reportedly looking to take advantage of that fact.
Moreover, if the player can adjust his financial demands to fit in with Barça’s current limitations, he would be a top signing for the club in the summer. For now, Fichajes reports that the Catalan giants already seem to have an approach in mind as well.
Barcelona will reportedly look to offer the 33-year-old defender a two-year contract. The club will be hoping to convince the Dutchman with their sporting project under Hansi Flick, something that has reportedly already convinced the likes of Frenkie de Jong when it comes to his contract renewal.
With the likes of Eric Garcia and Andreas Christensen still having uncertain futures at the club, there is no telling what ends up happening. Both players could end up leaving in the summer, and that would possibly give Barcelona a valid reason to pursue such a high-profile target as well.
