Dani Olmo is currently back on national team duty with La Roja and gearing up for Spain’s two games in the ongoing international break.
Despite recovering from a hamstring niggle only recently, the player has sprung back to life for Barcelona almost instantly. He is the team’s best attacking midfielder by far, although Hansi Flick has been managing his minutes carefully to avoid any relapse.
To this point, it is safe to say that Barcelona’s decision to prioritise Olmo’s signing last summer was a masterstroke for he truly revolutionises the team every time he takes to the field.
Speaking to the media recently, Barcelona midfield star Dani Olmo spoke on his return to the club, start to life in Catalonia and future ambitions.
He began by revealing what made Barcelona’s approach to sign him this summer different from their previous attempts and why they were finally successful.
“This summer was different, they really pushed. Deco gave me confidence from the beginning and no one had given me that confidence[before],” he said.
He then admitted that he could not have asked for a better club to be at and the timing of the offer to return home.
“It was the best place, the best team and the best club for me.”
Olmo’s registration was done by using the salary space left by Andreas Christensen’s injury and will expire on December 31. When asked if he was worried about Barcelona being able to register him in January, to which he said:
“I have blind confidence in the club, 100 per cent, since they know what needs to be done. I only dedicate myself to playing, because I am sure that in January I will be able to play.”
Barcelona were not doing all that great when approaches towards Olmo were made and were far from the free-flying side they have been this season. The youngster, however, revealed that he never doubted the team’s quality.
“I had confidence, or rather, the certainty that this Barça is a team made to win, that this year we are going to compete for everything and we are already demonstrating it. The goal is maximum this year.”
The La Masia graduate was then quizzed on what he wished to achieve at Barcelona, and his first instinct was to address the fans.
“I want to give a lot of joy to the Culés.”

Olmo endured a difficult journey after leaving La Masia early as he played for Dinamo Zagreb and RB Leipzig before returning home. He revealed, however, that the plan was always to improve and return to Barcelona.
“If someone explained to me 10 years ago that my path would pass through Zagreb and Germany (Leipzig), I would have signed with my eyes closed. The goal of going to Dinamo Zagreb was to be a footballer and in the end return to Barça, a dream,” he said.
Olmo has got off to a stunning start to life in Barcelona, not only in terms of his performance in midfield but also the goals he has brought in with remarkable consistency.
“I have goals in me. In the Euro Cup, for example. Last year I started like this at Leipzig and this year I hope to keep it until the end,” he said on his goalscoring.
“I knew that playing with these players, like Pedri, with whom I understand perfectly, that I was going to have many opportunities every game because this Barça generates a lot,” he added.
While Olmo has always been a difference-maker on the field, the biggest criticism around the player has been his fragile fitness and worrying injury record.
“I never stop working and look at the reason why I have been injured and this last injury caught me somewhat unprepared. It was ‘small’ but the hamstring always leaves you out for a few weeks,” he began.
“I didn’t take it as a contrary situation but as a way to keep working to come back stronger. Now I’m 100% for the preventive work, which makes me feel ready to give everything,” he added.
