Dani Olmo is making a strong case for a place in the starting lineup for the upcoming match against Atletico Madrid in Copa del Rey.

Following his impressive display against Las Palmas, the Spanish midfielder has positioned himself as a key option for Hansi Flick.

In fact, according to Mundo Deportivo, his recent form suggests he could play an important role in the crucial fixture.

Against Las Palmas, Olmo demonstrated his attacking prowess with a well-executed goal. His ability to control the ball, switch feet, and finish with precision highlighted his technical quality.

More importantly, his performance erased any concerns regarding his physical condition. The club had conducted medical tests to assess his fitness, and the results were encouraging.

Hence, with those doubts behind him, Olmo now looks ready to reclaim his place in the team. However, his recent performances have sparked competition within the squad, particularly with Gavi for a place in the starting XI.

A difficult period for Olmo

Olmo has not been in the starting lineup since the cup match against Betis on 15 January, which was ten games ago.

Despite being used as a substitute in recent matches, Olmo has been highly efficient in front of goal. He has outperformed Ferran Torres and Raphinha in terms of goal-scoring frequency, averaging a goal every 124 minutes in LaLiga.

This is an impressive return given that he has only played 744 minutes in the league, scoring six goals—two of which came from the bench.
